The Hundred Dresses: Day 1

The Hundred Dresses: Day 1

So as y’all may already know, I have a new book coming out next week. It’s called The Hundred Dresses, as well as it’s all about gown archetypes. (It’s illustrated by the outstanding Donna Mehalko.)

The book was influenced by the Eleanor Estes classic, likewise called The Hundred Dresses — as well as most likely the #1 concern I’ve gotten about my “Hundred” is whether it’s about gowns I’ve stitched myself. “Oh, no,” I said, “It’s about traditional dresses, like the Flapper as well as the Airship Hostess! Anyway, I’m sure I don’t have a hundred gowns …”

And then I went as well as counted.

So it turns out that yes, I do have a hundred gowns that I’ve made myself, if I dig deep into the archives as well as likewise include some bad neglected “someday I’ll repair this” things that have never seen the light of day. So for the next hundred days, I’ll be back to publishing a literal gown a day.

Ready? On to day 1!

This is McCalls 3528, as well as yes, it is very, extremely moire, isn’t it? Don’t look at it as well long. It’s likewise incredibly bulky, since it features gathered BOX PLEATS. Yep, there is a great deal of material there. (The material is a good heavy shirting, not sure where I got it from.)

It appears like I may have not gotten the nap best on this either, since the light hits it differently, depending upon which side you look at. Oh well. The stripes match alright — that’s the essential part, right?

I haven’t used this extremely frequently since it’s a teeeeeensy bit huge in the midsection as well as the believed of taking all those pleats out, re-balancing them, re-GATHERING them, as well as then putting the gown back together just makes me want to lie down as well as take a nap.  It would be less work (or at least, feel like less work) to make everything over once again from scratch, particularly because the material (or a facsimile thereof) isn’t that difficult to find.

So that’s Day 1, gown 1! stay tuned for more!
