Beyond the Glass Slipper

Beyond the Glass Slipper

… is the glass dress. thanks to Beth for the link!

This is called “Evening gown with Shawl”, as well as is by the artist Karen LaMonte, as well as is at the Corning museum of Glass (click picture above to virtually visit) which has this to state about her:

Her subject is the dress, which is always life-size, whether it is for an infant, a young girl, or a woman. She explores a range of styles of garments in her work, from rigid as well as frilly Victorian gowns to idealized classic drapery. Her fashion options show altering notions of beauty, exactly how women view themselves, as well as exactly how they have been viewed by others.

More pictures of LaMonte’s work are here.

The conceit of making transparent glass sculptures of attire that are supposed to be opaque truly appeals to me … the gowns are gorgeous as well as the molding process she uses, integrated with the glass, serves to make the absent bodies that used them somehow more present (if that makes any type of sense).
